Sunrise Salutations To Savitr Poem by Ananta Madhavan

Sunrise Salutations To Savitr

We bow to Savitr, the Eye of all Creation,
The Cosmic Force that vivifies and sustains us.
The primal Cause, the ordering and the end
In everything is divinely manifest. May it protect us.

As waters from the sky move to the ocean,
Prayers to deities reach the cosmic Power.

This is a rendering in English of a mantra in Vedic Sanskrit,
a ritual salutation to the primal power innate or manifest,
animating all forms and processes. It is quintessentially universal,
beyond divisions of community, race, creed or language. The Almighty
may be worshipped by many names.

Internet has sites providing the original text,
references and commentaries on the ancient prayer to the Power.
"Namah Savitre, Jagat eka Chakshushe".

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The Vedas are ancient, but the early Sanskrit versions remain
preserved. The essentially universal message of this hymn
is worth cherishing. It is beyond all human feuds, creeds
and divisions.
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

BEYOND ALL HUMAN FEUDS, CREEDS AND DIVISIONS - that's where I want to be: beyond the need to argue, persuade and cajole people that my religion is right so yours is wrong, so d'ya wanna fight it out and winner take all - such sentiments are completely wrong-headed. I'm going to adopt this mantra and invoke if not the presence of the deity, at least the proper mental/emotional attitude AS IF the god were near us.

Dear Friend, You have given me more than empathy, you have shown your innate nobility as a fellow- human being, with understanding of what 'Human' means. We gain as humans when we remember the true tenets of the invocation to the Supreme. May you have happiness and creative ideas. AM
