Surgery Poem by Khumo Mhlanga

Surgery

You lurked in dark crevices
Manipulating - wielding your power
I flinched when you threatened exposure.

Strength from raising my hand & outing myself.
What power do you have NOW?

My nakedness an inescapable light
Let the Surgeon remove what anomalies He finds.
I'm no longer ashamed or embarassed -
Who, during surgery, is?

My healing is beginning
