Sword In The Sun Poem by Donal ThomsCappello

Sword In The Sun

When I feel the sun is lower than it is, I tend to drift more to the night side.
Feeling the stars are warmer than they could possibly be,
As far they are from my world.
It is not actual warmth I yearn for
But the waves of fire that come
With every thought or memory or fantasy
That has passed through my mind as quickly as it has arrived.

Sometimes they bring pain, followed by a sheer abyss of ecstasy
Sometimes ecstasy followed by pure pain
But they are all I know as real
And all I ever see myself as real in.
When wave after wave hits me,
I am a sword flickering in the sunlight
Seen from miles away when I pass through rays,
Reduced to cold steel when I don’t.

I take comfort and sleep well
Knowing that it is this motion
That keeps me on a path
Much wider than my eyes can grasp,
And that a sword sitting in the fire
Will only wither away in silent agreement.
