Tarnished Heart Poem by Raj Dronamraju

Tarnished Heart

Tarnished star
Forgotten about in the dirt
Pick it up and rub it on your shirt

Tarnished star
Made of brass
Some who owned it polished it like glass

Other who wore it once or twice then threw it in a drawer
Eventually giving it away when they move

Tarnished star
Could still pass muster
All who have pinned it couldn't dim its luster

Tarnished star
The user makes a sale
Wants to read your body with his hands like brail

Wants to toss you in the gutter when they have finished
Rainwater and rodents won't diminish your dazzle
I think the word "tarnished" is not an adequate nor fair description
