Tasha Gets New Ear Rings Poem by Unnikrishnan Sivasankara Menon

Tasha Gets New Ear Rings

Rating: 5.0

Ears pierced,
pain
cries
tears!

‘Hi, nice ear rings'
comments everyone.
Her pain
she suffers alone,
half asleep
on my wet shoulders
listening to
‘Omanathingal Kidavo'
sobbing!

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Piercing the earlobes of baby girls, at a very tender age is a grand ceremony in most Hindu families. In my community, this ceremony is celebrated on the 28th day after birth, though I don't follow this norm
