Taught To Fear Poem by Randy McClave

We were taught to fear witches
They would take our souls and riches,
As they flew around on a broom
To bring us dread and doom.
Them we were always taught to fear
As stories about them we did hear,
How on children they would use a curse
And on adults they were worse.
We were told of the bad things that they did
Things that God did forbid,
We were told how evil that they were
To that belief everyone did concur.
We were taught to fear their laughter
Because, children they were always after,
And if children by them were got
They would throw them in their pot.
That is what our parents did teach
As they gave us the better beware speech,
We learned to fear witches to survive
But, not to fear those who burned them alive.
