Teammates Poem by Stephen Omolori

Teammates

Since marriage makes us race through life together,
Reports of broken homes should not make us stop.
Sometimes we'll race under a bad weather,
But our feelings for each other shouldn't drop.
You know that marriage is a marathon,
Never a hundred metre relay race.
Musing while sipping from the fount of Helicon,
I pray, ‘JHVH, may we never part ways.'
There is not a joy in breaking bread, sipping wine,
Then realizing there's no one to cheer with you.
Even in hearts where grief and sorrows dine,
Significant others' words whisper: ‘Push through.'
Though some people say the race leaves them depressed,
Being your teammate pushes me to my best.
