The Poet Poem by Stephen Omolori

The Poet

You only hear the truth from a poet
Because he gladdens your heart like your favourite duet.
A poet writes fire that float on paper sheets,
Especially when he has the wits.
He turns water to blood,
Although he sometimes pays with his blood.
A Poet gives a fool common sense
Without even asking for a pence.
He paints pictures for the blind,
Although he is seen as out of his mind!
The deaf marvel at his voice
Because he gave them a choice.
Fools hate him
Because they think he is dim.
Distraction pays attention when he speaks
Like a penguin waiting for her mate for weeks!
A Poet's existence is pain to injustice,
Racism, police brutality with a heavy notice!
Dictators give him jail term
For speaking against the cankerworm.
With all sincerity he refuses to compromise
To the moral decadence that may arise!
Although the poet knows that he might be killed,
He still choose to pay the price when he was billed.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem was inspired as a result of the Poet being the mouthpiece of the people in any society. The Poet speaks even when his life is at risk. I wrote this poem on the 3rd of January,2016; it's a celebration of the Poet. Every Poet tells a story that shows his view concerning the happenings of his society. As a big fan of Jermaine Lamarr Cole (J.Cole) , he said, and I quote, "Every Poet just wanna be loved."

Good poem. I believe that poetry can be among the big enhancers of an upcoming wisdom and kindness revolution.
