Tears...Where Are You? Poem by Edward Campbell

Tears...Where Are You?

Why can't I cry your beautiful skin?
Why are my eyes dry, my hope blind?
Where am I, my mind to unwind
this intense lie of mine?
Oh, what can I find?

Tears...
where are you?
why have you left me?
you know I need you!
you know you need me!
Where have you gone?
Why aren't you near?
I just need to feel you, just one little tear!

Tears...
where are you?
why am i dry?
I haven't cried too much to keep you,
have I?
Have I not longed for your nature?
Have I not made you a home?
Should I drink more water?
Should I dive deeper in my tome?

Tears...
where are you?
what's going on?
I thought I was lonely, sad, afraid and alone!
What happened to you?
How can this be?
I need to cry so much,
to cry so badly.

Tears...
Where are you?
Is that it?
Are you gone?
Maybe I'm not so bad, so bad, after all...

Maybe I'm real, whole and glistening...
Maybe my sobs of pain finally taught me to listen
Fine tears, go on, I don't need you any more.
I'll be alright without you.
I'm up off the floor.

I've picked myself up
I didn't need you
No more crying
That's right!
We're done! No, we're through!

Tears...
Where are you?
I'd like to say goodbye.
I'll see you again someday,
I'm sure,
now good night.
