Technician Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Technician

Technician

Lucky I was
-smile…smile…smile
-she and I…
-separate as are
-Man-made-canals
-seem to be old friends
-grown under the same roof
-at the same table; and…
We hardly meet and if we do by chance
-we have several times!
-we laugh…touch…hug…
She had told the technician
-no worries
-we have a smiling client
-he will change our mood
-accumulated by our shitty colleague!
Technician told me of herself
-am a doctor
-not accepted by Canada
-must take courses
-and exams
-takes time
-have two kids
-a jobless engineer husband
-must work
She reminded me of my students
-and the young Turks
-need forces them to divorce
-their past and lower their status
-my colleague spent five years
-past the exams
-still jobless
-doctor
Said the technician…
-we live in the country of
-permits, licenses, diplomas

-I went to a doctor
She said:
-they are illiterate
-but with degree
