Than Your Dog Poem by Francis Duggan

Than Your Dog

One who will love you unconditionally untilher or his life will end
Than your dog you do not have a truer friend
A walk every day a few kind words and a good feed
For a lifetime of devotion is all your dog of you does need
You may lose the love of your children and your wife
But your dog will remain as your unconditional friend for life
of the kindness to them by their mentors most dogs in love and devotion repay
The dog you treat well as your friend until death stay
The aggressive dogs the personalities of their owners display
At least in most dog human relationships it is this way
Most human beings outlive their dogs by years
I have seen adult women and men at the death of their dogs in tears
You treat your dog well and you can depend
That you have in her or him a lifetime true friend.

I cried so much, I could hardly finish reading your wonderful poem. You dog tail, nailed the relationship, so perfectly. I think of my Sandy every day. And if not inner tears, exterior ones come To pain a love that I'll never have again, For the rest of my days.
