That Cute Old Couple Poem by Melody McKinstrie

That Cute Old Couple

Rating: 5.0

We will be that cute old couple

At whom people point and stare

You know the ones

Where they walk along

Holding hands

Saying darling and yes my dear.

We will be that cute old couple

That speak lovingly to each other

When they are watching

The morning news

Or reading a newspaper

Drinking their morning coffee.

We will be that cute old couple

That does their allotted chores

Sharing the dullness

Smiling at each other

As they do their housework.

A true sharing of labor.

We will be that cute old couple

That prepare and eat

Meals together.

Yes he can be seen chopping vegetables

Or boiling water.

Or setting the table

Like a waiter

But only waiting upon himself

And his lover.

WE will be that cute old couple

That gets ready for bed

Brushing their teeth

Or dentures

Changing into pajamas.

Well for the time being

Until the friskiness

Becomes too much

And they want to cuddle

with each other in their nakedness.

When they want to touch

And be touched

After so many years

Still allowing for a near reverence

That in this wide wide world

They found one another.

And their lives meshed.

A serendipity

That almost seems heaven sent.
