That Glass Poem by Genevieve Surrender

That Glass

That glass speaks to me
It tells me all the lies
and fabrications
that my mind has
been telling me for years.

That glass speaks to me
in something other
than words
and phrases
and sentences

That glass speaks to me
with so much force
i'm nearly
blown off my feet

That glass speaks to me
and tells me
I've become a woman
and I must move on
from those things
I loved as a child

That glass speaks to me
A picture says a thousand words
and a movie must have trillions
but how many words
can be said
when I look at myself
in the dark reflection of an out-of-business drug store window?
