That Old Memories Does Linger Poem by Francis Duggan

That Old Memories Does Linger

Have you ever thought of the far away town
And the old streets you often did walk up and down
When you were younger a long time ago
Long before time it did become your foe

Have you ever thought of the games you did play
With your young friends in the schoolyard from here far away
And wondered to yourself where they might be today
That old memories does linger does seem true to say

In your moments of nostalgia when thinking of the past
Have you ever wondered why time went so fast
It did not seem that long ago when you were in your physical prime
Though it is close to four decades when going back in time

Have you ever wondered where your teenage friends now are
Like you from your first hometown some are living far
Perhaps some of them grandparents and at home did stay
And some of them are where the deceased are does lay

The friends of your young year now old blokes and old dears
Does they often think of the now long gone years
When in the schoolyard children games they did play
The past may have gone but the good memories of it does stay.
