That One Dream Poem by Joan Marques

That One Dream

Dreams. How long should we cherish them?
And when should we trash them?
I guess no one really knows.
Some people are able to release
The old dream they harbored
As soon as a new one shows
And maybe that's right,
Who am I to judge?
All I can say is
That maybe their old dream didn't mean much...

But what if you have one single dream
That you want to realize more than anything
That dazzles your mind
And that makes your soul sing
That tirelessly keeps palpitating
Like a heartbeat: Year after year
Regardless of maturity
Or the fact that old age comes near?

Is that the dream that they call 'the real deal'?
The one that serves the major task
Of keeping you going with a ray of hope
And giving you strength to put up the mask
That you need when you try to endure mediocrity
And celebrate ordinary gobbledygook
While you secretly chase this singular chance
This humongous fish on your emotional hook

I believe that's a dream you should pursue:
The everlasting, hope-giving, reviving one
A dream you should only give up when life is through
When you know all your efforts are finally done.

Dream is a natural outlet or ventilation for the mind. It is like a safety valve, to release the excess stress and strain the mind cannot bear with, otherwise, the mind is likely to break down. A good poem to read.
