That Sad Little Girl Poem by Kristen Brewster

That Sad Little Girl

I see a girl cowering in a dark corner,
Whimpering and crying.
My heart tugs towards her,
In hope of offering some kind of comfort.
That small, sad, little girl,
I want to help her.

“No! ” she screams, “Don’t come near me! ”
“But I want to help, ” I offer back.
“No! I don’t want help..”
“no, no, no”
She shakes her head
Crying even more.
“yes….” small and meek
“yes, I want help.”
“I have never wanted someone to notice me before.”
“I’ve never needed someone to.”
“But now…”
“….I do.”

“And now that person won’t pay any attention to you, let alone know you are in pain? ” I guess.
That small, sad, little girl whimpers again,
And curls into a ball.
I wrap my arms around her
Allowing her to know I am here.

After all,
I am that little girl.
