The Animals That Live With Us Poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

The Animals That Live With Us

Rating: 5.0

Pets

We should only keep pets we could eat, say, rabbits
Or miniature pigs when we get tired of them in the pot
they go.
In the hinterland of Alentejo, I once had rabbit stew
It tasted strange but was edible later I suspect it was
Cat meat.
I have been thinking of becoming a vegetarian. Have tried
But it never tasted like meat.
There is now artificial meat for sale, alas mostly as burgers
When they come up with a good steak that doesn`t fall
Into pieces, I will eat that meat.
As for now I will have fried sausages for my lunch and
Baked potatoes
