The Apex of it all
Is that you never know when you might be sitting at your dearest friends bed side with his worried father going to California
And now
In-between the hours
Here I sit in the sunshine state in the grey by way of passenger clouds threatening rain
And that is just it
Somewhere between the storm and the light is where I hear the brightest and most enormous thunder
The lightning of a fathers hammer that built a house of love
And the wares of a sons eyes looking up to meet his sire
And as the sky flashes over us
We are forced to sit and ponder all
To wren our hearts and clear our minds
To breath in the memory of a man who walked gently and gave ferociously
The even keel of a gentleman I personally had the honor to know and love
I am listening for the evening tide and foraging the golden sunset of tomorrow
I can hear the rush of the spirit
Of fathers born of fathers passing down the keys of life to their sons and they in turn opening new doors for there sons alike
New passages
Enchanted corridors
Hand me down records
Radio stations and a song for the taking
Unknown and last minute
That is the comedy of life and death
We live our best lives and leave a wake of passion and a silver lining of true strength for the days to come
For the ones we are compelled to
And every time I sat with my friend and his father
We were content to be the titans of our time and space
Bound by camaraderie and the tenacity to know that we are all one simple flicker of a greater flame
And here we are
Mothers
Fathers
Sons and daughters
Destined to be the best part of the memory of a truly kind soul
I am humbled and today my tears are born of sadness
Tomorrow they will be tears of happiness reflecting in pools of the memory of my friend
