The Arrogant Mango Poem by VINCENT OYET

The Arrogant Mango

Sometimes the beauty and sweetness of a mango can fill it with such power and arrogance, that it begins to think it's greater than the very tree that bore it.
so the mother tree humbles it.

The mother tree in its quiet strength,
will shake its branches under the weight of the wind,
letting the proud fruit fall to the ground it once looked down upon.

There, bruised and humbled,
the mango remembers.
That its sweetness and beauty was never its own,
but a gift borrowed from the roots, the rain, and the patient arms
that held it high.
