The Assurance Of Love's [power Poem by RIC BASTASA

The Assurance Of Love's [power

it is felt, and perhaps to lessen it
i or you might as well talk about it
and perhaps something heavier can be
lighter with words and a little concern
or affection.

so on Saturdays we go to the beach
under the palm trees we try to laugh
all these out, from jokes to how
others live so seriously that they
forget how is it to live and live
simply.

last night i read about it, that
poems all talk about it and in fact
all poems are that, and i did not
agree at first, thinking that it
could be absurd and illogical but
then what happened this morning
tried to prove me wrong.

tonight i write about an anxiety
attack and how it should be defeated
by a chant, a repetitious assurance
that everything will be alright and
i remember you, of course, who already
left and never came back and left
something for all to be guilty of.

there is pain in my arms when i write
about this, and there is pain in my head
something is heavy and something seems
to be unbearable, and i talk about you
and i keep on talking to you on the
phone.

i am talking about love and how useful
could it be, in defeating the pain of
absurdity, the pain of nothingness and
how full could love be, like a basket of
fruits that you bring on the table and
we did not eat it, we simply gazed at
its colors and shapes and that feeling
that life through them is as beautiful
as the glaze of their skin against the
hanging chandelier in the dining table.
