The Banjara Symphony Poem by Sumita Jetley

The Banjara Symphony

In the heart of the city's relentless beat,
A wanderer's soul found rhythm beneath her feet.
Maya, the Banjara, in a tower so high,
Watched her heritage fade as the years passed by.

Her fingers wove threads of a time long gone,
Desert hues on fabric, like the rising dawn.
But the city's hum, its unyielding demand,
Left her longing for the touch of her land.

One rainy night, as the heavens wept,
Through crowded streets, her spirit crept.
A melody rose, raw and profound,
An ektara's tune in the air unbound.

There he sat, Ravi, the keeper of song,
A musician adrift, where he didn't belong.
Their eyes met, a story untold,
Of roots unbroken, of hearts still bold.

Together they dreamed, a vision so bright,
To blend the old with the city's light.
The Banjara Symphony, a place to restore,
The art of their people, forgotten no more.

With mirrors that danced and colors that sang,
Ravi's music and Maya's threads rang.
Under lanterns swaying, their culture shone,
A harmony of heritage, beautifully grown.

The city embraced what it once ignored,
Their legacy cherished, their voices roared.
For even amidst the urban sprawl,
The soul of a nomad could conquer it all.

Now monthly they gather, a crowd diverse,
In awe of the wanderers' vibrant verse.
And Maya smiles, her heart set free,
For the spirit of Banjara is eternity.
