The Barroom Philosopher Poem by Nathan Strange

The Barroom Philosopher

Rating: 3.5

They didn’t let him in
they wouldn’t
they couldn’t,
because he was apparently too loud
and spoke his mind a lot.

‘It’s easy to give advice
but it’s hard to take! ’
He used to say.

He was a sad drunk
that had problems
but he was funny
and made us laugh
He tried to sing Jonny Cash
but sounded like a
frog with a
sore throat.

Some people despised him
because they were jealous.

Jealous of a drunken old man
Who couldn’t sing.
Jealous of an ugly old man
Who had problems.

But how could they hate
Someone who never hated them?

He had sinned
He had done wrong
He had left his wife and kids
He was no angel
But he’d done nothing wrong
to them.
Yet they continued to hate him.

The man had soul
He had character
He had stories and
jokes…

But what did they have I wonder?
