The Battle Poem by Patrick Villareal

The Battle

Rating: 5.0

</></></></>Charging into the open battle field I carry my gun
Shooting and killing, I fight until the battle is won
Watching my friends dropp beside me as we push through the night
Stumbling over the carnage, trying to carry on this difficult fight
Giving to the angel of death we smash through their line
Steadily yielding the toll, only considering what could be mine
Seizing the day we drive them back
Failing to notice the price paid for this relentless attack
Gazing at the motionless faces of my loved ones, all the sacrifices made
Realizing they wont come back, the thought bursting within my chest..like a live grenade
The battle has been won and I my self, made it through
Forced to leave my breathless comrades to rot as we must make do
