The Battle Against Sleep Poem by Hannah Davies

The Battle Against Sleep

Many a night I lay awake and ponder
I try to shut my body down but my mind begins to wonder.
I lay my head on the pillow and close my eyes tight
But I can't seem to sleep, I'm riddled with fright.

Some children believe there are monsters under the bed
I know monster exist, it's not in my head.
She let in the light as she walked in my bedroom
Revealed both their faces and I absolutely hate them.

I twist and turn in the battle for forty winks
Wish I could put my brain in a jar so unable to think.
The bags uinder my eyes grow large and heavy
And I look anything far from pretty.

I wake up from my awful nightmares screaming
Sweaty, crying and with rapid breathing.
The dreams how they feel almost real
They say dreams are the minds way of being able to deal.

There are sleeping pills to help you on your way
But they make you feel drowsy for the rest of the next day.
But every night I will try with all my might
To fall asleep and win this fight!
