The Beast Poem by Vani Agarwal

The Beast

The dark was haunted as the moon hung over,
And the cub sat over the body left by the rover.
Holding his Ma close, he cried for many hours,
Yes, he washed off the blood, but couldn't wash off the scars.

"Ma, let's play! Get up already! " He cried.
Oh, he wished if reality too lied.
He put flowers around her, she loved those,
He made a boundary around her to keep away the foes.

The foes, who set his pearls loose,
The foes who made wrong choices even when they could choose.
Of course he was angry, oh! He whined!
Promised to not step back, till his foes he could find.

Set out alone, afraid of the dark.
But the fire was ignited, his Ma was his spark.
So he ran to the village. God, he was brave.
But he wasn't leaving this till he reached his grave.

A tall figure stood there, with power all around,
But the cub had a fire, for his enemy he found.
He roared and leaped on him, but not to kill.
He waited for the man to stay, finally stay still.

He asked why his Ma, he asked why his home,
Why they made it black and white what was once filled with chrome.
He whined he didn't have a place to play,
He cried as they interpreted what he tried to say.

He yelled for peace and asked for his right.
He wanted his home, and he was ready to fight.
The cub then got off, and walked away.
For he knew talking to man was like talking to hay.

If they had a heart, they too would see,
That if they lived in harmony, a miracle the world would be!
But man saw only anger and not the cub's pain,
BOOM! The bullet went and silence returned to the lane.

The cub fell, as the man sank his entire moan,
But he didn't stop complaining, till his heart was finally stone.
