The Bestenemy Poem by Warri Stanley

The Bestenemy

Rating: 5.0

The Best Enemy.

You are the best friend to the boys.
You harbours them without saying no
Who at night or day gathered at your feet.
Who now dwells in your own towns,
But praying in the bush always,
Without the purpose of existence.

They said, they are coming for blessing,
And you will gladly accept them too.
You bless very little and but kill many,
But you said, you are their best friend.

Boys, who come to you white in the morning,
And later became very black in the evening,
Like a charcoal from a quiet oven.
Wearing different masks of abnormalities.

Boys, who shed many tears in solitude,
Who agree inside and to disagree outside,
Finding no other route from you,
They are the boys lost in the forest.
You neither help them nor show the way.
But you said, you are their best friend.

I see some of your tears in many colour,
And your tears has reached the world,
That makes the rivers that filled the earth.
'Cos you have not learn to make out your own.

Boys, where you are now is not your own,
And you do not own yourself all alone.
Only you have the power to change the route,
So that others can clearly follow you.
