The Best They Can Poem by Jim Boone

The Best They Can

“It’s momma and daddy’s fault!
They never loved me, supported
me or encouraged me! No wonder
I never got nowhere! I hate ‘em! ”

Carried that kind of baggage for
most of your life? An all too easy
excuse to fail; a choice to look
the wrong way, to create obstacles
and build walls cemented in blame.

If you had known your grandparents,
when their kids (your parents) were
small, you would understand more
how they could not show, give or
create for you, something they had
never felt or known.

Hey, give ‘em a hug and get on
with your life. They did the best
they can. You can do better.

My dad died this year and we had never
expressed love for each other. Don’t
let that happen to you. ‘Not knowing
how’ and anger will get you nowhere.
