The Bimbleball Poem by Richard D Remler

The Bimbleball

.....................

One fine dark and stormy day,
I stepped outside the door to play
A game of 'Keep The Ball Away, "
Before they called me in to stay.

I found the Bimble ball out near the tree.
But just as quick as it saw me,
It bounced around Grand Em's Roses,
Right under everybody's noses.

I crept upon it from behind,
To give that ball a piece of mind.
When it bounded through the daffodils,
And over Momma's Sarsaparill's.

The soft rain tapped against the sea
Of backyard grass. But as for me,
I ran as swift as a gazelle,
In hopes to kick that ball a spell.

But my struggle seemed to pale and wane
In the thick and pouring rain,
As that ball knickered out beside the tree
And I could hear it laugh at me.

"You're a wicked ball! " I said at last.
"You roll and bounce away too fast!
It will take a thinking, thoughtful lad
To snatch away the day you've had! "

And, so I jumped just high enough to see
The cursed thing spring right at me,
And with the persistence of banana bread,
It thudded clear right off my head,

It tapped against the kitchen door,
Then bounced and bounded out once more,
Coming to a gentle stop
Around my Grand Em's Bobble Top.

The sky, she thundered blue and gray,
And whipped hard rain across the way,
As the awning shook against the gale,
And half a dozen acorns fell.

The wind swirled leaves about the tree,
When the ball, it paused to spy at me.
But the thunder brought me to confide
I think it's time to go inside.
