The Birth Of A Poem Poem by Lora Colon

The Birth Of A Poem

When loneliness puts love to shame,
What salient words drip from my pen,
And so the heart, wounded and lame
Dictates its distress with acumen

Could this be why heartache must reign -
Just to appease Fate's poetic lust?
Being inundated with pain
Urges us to write, and write we must

Shamelessly we seek love's potion,
Granting our thirsting hearts their relief,
Knowing well the very notion
May become a vile herald of grief

Many times Fate's trap will allure
Deceived hearts to be waylaid by love,
And O, the anguish they endure,
But it's the poems I'm thinking of!

Imagine the agony pent
In the depths of a rejected heart,
Poetise that hopeless torment -
Soon the pain becomes a work of art

But love that endures Fate's cruel shove -
The fortress that refuses to fall,
Those words that proclaim undying love
Become the grandest poems of all!
