The Black Hummer Poem by Dallin Bruun

The Black Hummer

we wanted to see a 30 acre property
up South Fork Canyon
owned by some rich dude
who we scheduled to meet

he was idling in an H1 Hummer
the real deal
the version so impractical they stopped making it 10 years ago
the motorized embodiment of awesome
black metal on white snow
dramatized by steam rising off the river

I had a crush on that car
I told my friend I wanted it
I told the rich dude I wanted it
by the end of the day I had it

as I look out the window
and see it parked out front
I wonder if I will ever like it
as much as I did before I had it
