The Blessing You Must Not Seek Poem by Abdullah Ramadan

The Blessing You Must Not Seek

Listen close now my son,

There lies an empty mountain
With but one thing there inside

A blessing of eternal wealth
They said
A Blessing of peace and mind

So a man went to uncover
This ancient mystery

He found three men who asked him
Oh, what do you here see

Confused, he said
I see three men
Oh, what do you hide from me

Ignoring they reply
Then here is what you seek

This blessing of eternal wealth
They said
This blessing of mystery

He comes a little closer
To see what may lay therein

For then all three men together
Plunged there knives in him

As he lay there dying
He said, you lie to me

No, you do not understand
For this is what you seek

The blessing of ancient mystery
The blessing of peace and mind
The blessing you must not seek
