The Breakup Poem by Holly Jamestone

The Breakup

We jumped in with both feet
Abandoning our life rafts
Frolicking freely in our Love
Bathing ourselves in moonlight

We swam and smiled
And held each other and cried
Declaring our feelings, our hopes
While pledging to nurture us forever

Soon the riptide came and I couldn't feel you
Barely seeing you through the mist
Your silhouette quickly fading
As unfamiliar waters besieged us

You retreated as I waded
Treading water while painfully aware
That our boat had tipped over and the
Shore now beckoned me back home

I lay on the sand till my heart was calm
And my tears had dried
I hugged my knees and my memories
Then smiled and headed for the horizon as
A dove flew overhead
