The Broken Bridge..... Poem by RIC BASTASA

the bridge is broken
some planks of wood
fall to the river

the flood takes them
and people watch and continue
walking on the
broken bridge seeing to it
however that
no one falls to the river
and die

no one bothers to complain
no one is reporting the broken bridge
and the dangers that lurk
on its missing planks where children
had to skip and risk
their lives though they appear
as though they are simply
playing 'skip'

the people who are busy
earning their living
do not mind at all what happens next

they worry about what to eat
for their next meal....
