The Business Of The Poet Poem by Shalom Freedman

The Business Of The Poet

THE BUSINESS OF THE POET

The business of the poet
Is writing poetry
And like every self-employed businessman
The poet works without hours
To do the most and best business he can-

He opens the store
Even when there are no customers
And keeps it open despite
The lack of business-

The business of the poet
is often the opposite of what a business should be
It does not make money
And leaves the poet
With an overstock of unsold goods
Bankrupt and bewildered.

Aloha Shalom... In shāʾ Allāh baby! What are we bards gonna do? Start a word bank! We of the unsold, bankrupt, and hopelessly bewildered... scratching out, scrawling out, clawing out a few lines of prose... flying such into the ether... hoping for a bit of response... maybe... and the sordid truth is the most of US has no clue to the answer for the question of... What exactly is poetry? So many stuffy rules for fools and pompous rude tools of the educated... I wonder what the prolific bards of the last fifteen or twenty thousands of years would make of US today... quite probably nothing but an unworthy ball of withering asps at the bottom of a sewage outfall... and anyhow... are we in this muddle for the coin? Give it some most profound thought my brother... All of the best from this life, to you, and all of your relations... Michaelw1two
