The Cankerworm Poem by Edward Kofi Louis

The Cankerworm

No childbirth,
No gestation,
No conception;
They have sown the wind and they will reap the whirwind!
Like a man's love with grapes in the wilderness,
Like a woman's love with the yoke on her fair neck,
Of an euphemism as sheep among wolves.

I knew you in the wilderness but,
Men do give gifts to harlots;
But the sweet aroma of your love is all that i need.
I will show you love and care and a ring for your nose,
But in the land of this great drought comes this love;
But that which the locusts has left i will take care of.
Like women who break wedlock in the name of harlot-homes,
That which the cankerworm has eaten will be put in order.

Behold! The likeness of fire;
They have blown the trumpet on the images of their gods.
But destruction comes like the likeness of a hand,
And i will do my best to save you.
I will give you love and care to overcome all things,
I will show the true way of doing things in times of danger;
For true love comes from the heart and,
I am ready to save you.
