The Changes Are Happening In Millstreet Poem by Francis Duggan

The Changes Are Happening In Millstreet

The changes are happening in Millstreet i hear of or i have been told
And the mentors i knew in my boyhood are either deceased or quite old
And Millstreet is now multicultural and many migrants now live there
And the changes keep happening in Millstreet like the changes keep happening elsewhere.

And though of the Millstreet that i once knew the ageing balladeers well may sing
The changes are happening in Millstreet and change can be quite a good thing
In Millstreet Town now one can meet people from places such as Warsaw, Harara or Rome
And they too belong to old Millstreet and they too do call Millstreet home.

The changes are happening in Millstreet but few things in life stay the same
In those old fields west of the old Town i once had my daydreams of fame
Such dreams with the decades have faded but the youth are allowed for to dream
And though the changes keep happening in Millstreet the dipper still sings in the stream

That flows from the high fields by Clara towards Claraghatlea from Claramore
On towards the Cails, Finnow and the Blackwater that flows to the great ocean shore
Some things remain as unchanged in Nature whilst all around change happens fast
And the changes are happening in Millstreet from the Millstreet i knew of the past.

The changes are happening in Millstreet and time for us never does wait
And our days and our weeks go by quickly and on us all a use by date
A multicultural part of Duhallow nowadays it is said you can meet
People from all parts of the World walking in the Town of Millstreet.
