The Chronic Care Ward Poem by Raymond Farrell

The Chronic Care Ward

The chronic care ward
has sterile corridors
smelling like a medicine cabinet
if they'd only
put up a few pictures
or maybe
some original paintings
just to give the impression
someone
lived here

things look like
a polished mausoleum

while passing
open doorways I saw
silent bedridden figures
staring
listlessly
at blank walls.
