The City Of Regret Poem by Charmaine Mack (Exquisite Charm)

The City Of Regret

I have visited this city, but never for long.
The journey is hard; I must be strong.
Its roads are dusty, and the air is thin,
And before you know it, its lights grow dim.
There is no need to depend on fate
Because you are welcome within its gates.

I begin to think of those missed opportunities,
Then before I know it, I am in the city.
Oh the times I could have said, 'I'm sorry, '
And those times when I was just worrying.
I looked around in a daze,
My mind as confused as a maze.

While walking its streets, I stumbled suddenly.
How can this be? I feel I'm losing me.
I'm falling, and can no longer steady my feet.
I am falling quickly to my own defeat.
To lose oneself to one's own ambition,
Is to lose your soul without redemption.

In this city, you often feel alone,
Whether in a crowd or on your own.
Now I rise from the ashes of my own regret,
And forget the disappointments of what is yet.
Why be tormented by my failure,
When I can fight some more again tomorrow?

'Not ever again', I say,
'Even if I pass by, will never stay.'
The city of regret is a harrowing path.
It's only for those with a brave heart,
Who can adapt to its oft-changing weather,
And can visit if ever and not stay forever.
