The Cold Light Of Day Poem by Stanley Coffin

The Cold Light Of Day

If in the cold light of day you see no other way,
And that thing you cherish I do not possess then do what you think is right do what you feel is best,
Set me free and let our feelings be, For conflict is a tiresome beast it brings forth the worst in beings,
It seems it's only purpose is to injure maime and slight,
I've become weary and tired my resolve is no more there is no more fight,
The answer that I desperately did not want to hear an outcome that I did fear now beckons me with a sense of relief,
Sadly the casualty of conflict is truth for if it be told we end it not because of the right reasons but because we are wearied from the battle,
We trade truth for rest, the piercing words, the nasty barbs they all take their toll on the injured soul,
We have no more time to waste be my enemy be my friend let me be to wallow in my pity,
For presently I have no dignity a mistake we both made from a love made in haste from a relationship that did not suit,
We shall not try to breathe life into that which no longer lives,
Let us take the same journey on different paths, happiness being our pursuit.
