The Light Poem by Stanley Coffin

The Light

Beyond the pain and misery upon each other we chose to inflict,
There flickered a light ever so small and so very slight ,
Hope disguised as a light that was so very frail, one slight bit of ill wind would put it out and see us fail,
By that glow ever so slowly we rebuilt our love in the shadows of all the doubt,
The darkness gradually gave way to our guiding light,
Through the pain and the inevitable tears on we fought till the sunrise of our happiness started to appear,
It came back together a moment at a time and brick by brick we rebuilt our hearts and our home,
Our commitment and intent built on trust,
Allowed us to overcome a moment in our lives that we would not allow to define us,
When we said I do we made a commitment that we could not undo and no ill wind no matter how strong would stop us overcoming what was wrong,
Much as it may have tried it could not smother that eternal flame that we had lit together.
