The Coronavirus Pandemic Poem by Kenneth Maswabi

The Coronavirus Pandemic

Rating: 5.0

With its big appetite
Overzealous agenda
To eliminate humanity
COVID-19 came to our doorstep
Determined to teach us a lesson
It came through the door of globalization
Cutting through red tapes
It brought death and suffering to the house of humanity
But yet again it brought a new world order
We saw people locked in their homes in the name of social distancing
We saw the streets empty of all the commotion of capitalism
We saw the uselessness of some commonly held beliefs
Our belief in a strict twelve-month calendar of events was challenged
Sporting arenas were left empty
Churches were closed
And schools were left unattended
It was a bizarre reality
Even the wild animals noticed
The absence of the tyrannical human race
And basked at their new found freedom
They left their underground lodgings
And walked the streets of freedom
It was a marvel to watch
The sky was cleared of human pollution
And the birds celebrated
Even the healing powers of mother earth was restored
As we watched her sewing close a gigantic ozone hole in a matter of days
It was beyond belief
To hold time in our own hands
And spend our days with own families
Coronavirus pandemic may be humanity's worst nightmare
But it's a blessing in disguise
It's time to fold our old ways of looking at life
And embrace the directive of a new world order
Where working at home is a reality
And spending time with family is encouraged
It's time to review our money driven visions, missions and goals
And give much attention to quality of life
It's time to eradicate poverty
And find a cure for every disease
It's time for governments to step up
And start taking care of their people
It's time for capitalism
To work for all of humanity
Not just for the one percent
It's time for inequality to be buried six feet under
And a new sense of human relations erected
Where love, peace and equality are the cornerstones
It's time for all of humanity to unite under one roof
Regardless of gender, race and creed
And write a new charter of rights and freedoms
It's time for us to prepare for the next pandemic
It's time for us to put humanity ahead of our individualistic and materialistic agenda
