The Creation Of Wonder Woman Poem by Claire Bara

The Creation Of Wonder Woman

Rating: 5.0

In the land of Themyscira the Amazonian women reigned.
A island void of men, the women were warriors, rulers, and makers of their own children: building their daughters from the clay of their island.
The Queen Warrior,
ruler of the Amazonians,
desired a daughter.
One to rule her island when she stepped away.
The Queen gathered her warriors.
Gathered the finest clay from the land.
And together they began to sculpt.

Feet carved strong to carry her far and fast
Gave way to flexing calves
Thighs to bare weight
And hips to hold the world
Arms crafted strong to lift mountains
Led to hands soft yet callused from work
Shoulders broad pulls strong chest upward to stand tall
Neck firm to hold head high
A chin carved sharp to turn from evil ways
A mouth painted straight to open only for truth
Ears to hear only kindness
And eyes shaped fierce and narrow
Full of fire
to see through the hearts of men
The Queen painted her daughter beautiful but not perfect
Lips not too full
Skin not too smooth
And a nose not too small
She valued worth over beauty
But knew beauty was a weapon just as good
She found the outside appeasing to her soon created daughter
and turned to the inside

The Queen held clay in her hands and began to craft her daughter's mind
She gave her vast intelligence
The ability to speak any language she wished
The knowledge of war strategy and combat
The gift to figure any problem she is faced with
Her mind led way to her being
Kindness
Goodness
Light
Love
And strength
She gave her goodness
Yet also gave her flaws
She made her headstrong
And dramatic
She gave her anger and impatience
Her emotions had no bounds and they were hard to reign in
Yet she knew she was capable of handling anything

She made her heart pure
Yet whispered truths that would be hard to stomach in her life
Men will try to use you
Attack you
Manipulate you
The world will attempt to squash your heart and soul
Destroy you
Maim you
You will be seen as less than
Dirty
Worthless
And the world will try to force you to believe those as truths
You will face trials
Temptation
Opportunities for evil to invade your heart
Your kind
Womankind
Will be revered with hate and envy
You will be told you are less than men
Your rights will be stolen from you
You will be seen as weak
And this belief will justified by your oppressors
They will try to kill you
Your joy
Your soul
Your goodness

Yet.
Your kind
Womankind
Will be the ones you will need to survive
Rely on them and the world of men will not be able to extinguish your flames

The Queen whispered the last of these truths to her heart
Then placed it in the chest of her sculpted daughter

Suddenly
In the place of her sculpture stood a young girl
This girl was the child that would one day grow into the woman the Queen had created her to be
A young child
With a lively smile
Joy behind her bright eyes
And a presence of childlike wonder
Qualities that would not be squashed
But cultivated

As The Queen
A new mother
Knelt to her child

Hundreds of years in the future
On the planet Earth
Sat a young girl on a playground
In the midst of chaos
in her own little world
Reading a comic book

A young woman stood in a laboratory
Surrounded by men
The only woman stood tall

A new mother
Cradling her new born child
Singing lullabies to her baby girl

And an elderly woman sat
Telling stories of a far off land to her grandchildren

They all spoke the same thing the Queen told her daughter on the day of her creation

You are light
You are goodness
Strength and wisdom
You are not perfect but no one is
You are unique and original
You are strength
And will be able to handle life when it throws you the hardest of hands
You will always be able to turn to your family
Your kind
Womankind
Hold your chin high
And become the woman you are meant to be
You are a woman
You're a wonder woman

The values from the Queen's mouth flowed through the centuries
To all planets
To all women
From scientists
To mathematicians
Artists and musicians
They held their heads high
Held onto each other
And walked through whatever life handed them
Hand in hand
They knew her words ran true
But they were woman
Wonder Women
