The Damage You Do. Poem by Safiyyah Manjra

The Damage You Do.

Coincidentally I think of your smile.
It's sometimes your thoughts, words or touch.
Which lingers for a while.
I wonder if you think of me as much.
That, I highly doubt.

But it goes on and it feels,
Suffocating.
To think of you as much is quite exaggerating.
It is some sort of paranoia or maybe,
An obsession.
I'm trying to run.

It doesn't help to divert my thoughts.
I tried overwhelming myself with other distractions.
Distractions which are not you.

I ask that you set me free.
Be harsh with me and let my heart be.
For I am one too many.
With feelings for you endless as the sea…

Yours truly,
Embarking on a journey to self-sufficient discovery.

Thank you.
