The Daughter Of The East Poem by Vadakkumpurath Ramesan

The Daughter Of The East

She was urged by a moment
When she lost everything
That she become insane!
She was loitering with no sense
And left the matrimonial abode
Leaving her partner and off-springs
And moved among the sea of mob
That finally landed her
In a lunatic asylum!
She slept on the margin of roads
Where the darkness roamed
With the footsteps of beasts
Never alerted her nor put her in panic.
She was raped and made nude
And she walked
With torn cloths that swell tears
Of Good Samaritans!
She was impregnated
By an unknown ravisher
Whose seed started to sprout
In her womb with no knowledge of her!
She became a mother of a baby girl
Whom she fed with her breasts
And sang the lullaby
That she never forget yet not sane!
As days withered and the child talked
The past unveiled in her memory
And she was shocked and worried
As her sibling located her
On a word from her rescuers
And took her leaving the baby girl
At the hands of the Samaritans!
She wept and cried
And the frail body waved
As if the tree caught in a typhoon!
As her girl child was in tears
She hugged and kissed the child
As the brother took her hand
To board the vessel ready!
The estranged daughter is of the East!
And the estranged mother was of the West!
Her daughter of the East
Will loom large in sorrow
But she laboured the love for her
And longed that the daughter of East
Will alight to west as she mature!
