The Day Has Gone On Too Long Poem by Shalom Freedman

The Day Has Gone On Too Long

The day has gone on too long
And I have done too little in it
And one day soon
There will not be another day
To make recompense

But if a life will be lost
What can a day lost mean?

It is a day I have lived
Like almost all the other days
It will be forever forgotten

I tell myself
‘I must do more tomorrow
I will do more tomorrow'

But it too will be another forgotten day
As my life
As all I do
As everything there is and will ever be

Still I promise myself
I will not tomorrow
Wait to the end of the day
To really do something
Like writing these words now.
