The Day Has Been Too Long Poem by Shalom Freedman

The Day Has Been Too Long

The day has been too long
And too much has happened in it
And I am too tired
And I have had too much time
To not do what I perhaps should have done in it
And I still have more time
And do not know what to do in it
And write these lines
As if somehow
In the writing of them
I will come back to myself
And feel I have truly done something today
But that is a question
As all of what I have tried to do
Is a question
And it is not for me to answer this question
But only to write what I can
As best I can
Which I am by no means certain
I am doing now
And have done today.
