The Day I Lost Me Poem by Dónall Dempsey

The Day I Lost Me

The air froze
& the ground flowed
from under my feet

& I fell into water
as hard as this street

and the world was all
voices & feet
(voices & feet)

and one of the feet
cried: “Call an ambulance”

and I was taken by siren
to hospital

where a bed
held me

and I came to
to find me still asleep
although awake

And I thought:

“I wonder
whatever happened to me? ”

But the doctors couldn’t find
anything to do with me

and I had lost
all my thoughts

and I became
this shell

and they released me
to the world

of nothing there

...nothing there!
