The Day We Died Poem by Jade Baker

The Day We Died

I try and open my eyes,
But I cant see past the bright lights,
As the smell of burning fills the air,
I want to scream,
Is anyone out there?
I don’t know where I am,
But I know you’re next to me,
I cant tell if I’m alive or dead,
But I cant here you breathe,
I’m trying to focus on you,
But I’m bleeding too,
How did it come to this,
How did it get so far,
I can hear their voices,
Talking to me,
I know that I’m going to survive,
And I know I should feel lucky,
But you’re barely alive,
I want to reach out to you,
Tell you that we’ll see this through,
But words fail me,
And I know I have to leave,
You’re still trapped inside,
As they tell me you’re losing your life,
The day we both died
