The Day We Dread Poem by John Sensele

The Day We Dread

Delight in flights of the right
To play with rays of hope, the right to pray
For opportunities to conquer our pandemic plight
All the while peeling off fears and tears of the night
When in unison we desisted from growing astray
To delight in flights of the right
To bite and fight the obsession with the fright
That stole our resilience to steer away from the cray
Slaying opportunities to conquer our pandemic plight
As we resolved to facilitate our flight
To save the day and pave the way
For the delight in flights of the right
To assert our firm faith in the ray growing more bright
The more we closed ranks and inched closer to the day
Opportunities conquered our pandemic plight
That held us prisoner in the grip of the might
Once held in awe in the dreaded day
When we couldn't delight in flights of the right
For opportunities to conquer our pandemic plight.
