The Dead Man's Spin Poem by Jim Boone

The Dead Man's Spin

Of powerlessness, loneliness and despair
Is not easy to avoid in the human
Condition of cosmic forgetfulness,
Body weight lockup and
Doing what comes naturally
That can bring on an unbalanced
Dead man's spin....

How can a spiritual being in
Temporary human form
Come to believe self can
Ever become powerless?

God, the Father, is only a whisper away.
Believe and He is reality: Spin, spin, spin.

Elvis sang of ‘Lonely Street' and
‘Heartbreak Hotel', and wasn't
The first or last to lose his footing
In the spin. 'I'm so lonely I could die'
Crying, can blind one's thinking
In the dead man's spin...

Despair can trigger the spin you're in
And it's wise to shout 'Help me (!) '
Often until you get some.

It's not easy to avoid when the condition
You're in is human nature driven, but
Real easy to dropp to your knees
And whisper, 'Lord... '

The dead man's spin brought me
To this island in a rush; surrounded
Me with caring, loving souls in
Good condition, with the time
To nurture me. Blessed be blessing.

Now I'm writing and living (even became
A US Poet Laureate nominee) and
Making myself ready for the next round Lord
While leaving a record of the ever-evolving
Condition that my condition was/is in.

There are no dead man's spins on the island,
Only failure to brake before crossing over.

Amen
